Thanks For A Great Year
Its great to have so many young and old folks volunteering at our tournaments. Everyone please remember to register for your license. When you receive your stamp, card, and book, bring them to the next tournament and the Head Official will sign them.
"New for 2009 - Background Check"
All current and new applicant mat and pairing officials 18 years and older must complete a background check before applying for and receiving their officiating license and stamp for 2009. Any official 17 or younger does not need a background check. New and renewal USWOA 2009 memberships can be obtained at: http://uswoawrestlingofficials.com/uswoa_home.htm - Scroll about half way down the page and follow the directions to your right.
"License Reimbursement"
Any registered MUSAW official (mat or pairing) that works two seperate local tournaments and the State Championships during the same year will have their USWOA license fee of $30 reimbursed during that years State Championships. The official will have to provide a receipt for their license (that can be printed off at http://www.usawmembership.com) and that years card showing they worked the minimum of two seperate local tournaments and the State.
"New Rules interpretations for 2009"
All new "International" rules will be posted on the United States Wrestling Officials Association (USWOA) website. A copy of the 2009 USA Wrestling Rule Book can be downloaded from this website as well. The updated FILA rules and United States adjustments are posted at:
http://uswoawrestlingofficials.com/uswoa_home.htm
MUSAW will be using these rules and adjustments as they are updated to best prepare our athletes for the highest levels of competition.
Thanks again for all you do for our sport.
Looking forward to an exciting year of wrestling,

Weigh-ins
Othe web site state flyer it states, "ALL WRESTLERS NEED TO BE PRESENT AT THE BEGINNING OF WEIGH-INS AS THEY ARE IN CENTRAL REGIONAL'S." However, on the scedule it states that Friday weigh-ins are from
3:30 to 5 pm, please clarify. Also, last year thr registration line was not even finished until after 5 pm; it was a very long and slow line. Should we expect that again this year and prepare accordingly?
Dave Strejc
Weigh-ins
Dave,
Kids Greco and Women will weigh in Friday from 3:30 - 5:00 PM Friday night. Athletes can weigh-in anytime between the posted times for their age group.
We ask that athletes be present before weigh-ins begin because the registration process must be completed before he/she can present themselves at the scale (they are allowed to weigh-in anytime between the times posted).
We are trying to streamline the registration process for all concerned this year. Each age group will have its own registration desk, and volunteers working those desks, and this should move the athletes/coaches through the lines quicker.
I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Singlet
There has been alot of question as to color of singlets, such as can black be used as blue and pink be used as red. With all the varities of colored singlets there has been alot of questions raised. Can you please help us out with this, so the kids have the proper singlets for the state meet.
Troy
Singlet colors
Troy,
A red or blue singlet is required for Regional and State - this has been a state rule for over 20 years. It was adopted from our national rules to prepare our young wrestlers for higher level competitions.
Any red or blue singlet will suffice. It does not have to be a reversible singlet. The singlet, whether it be reversible or one red and one blue, must be at least 60% red or 60% blue.
We accept hues of red and blue, but only red and blue. Black, green, purple, or grey are not red or blue and therefore are not acceptable.
All wrestlers must weigh in wearing a "competition" singlet - not a singlet with the straps cut off or with shorts on, a "competition" singlet. This will allow the trainer doing the skin check to see the athletes body - he can have the athlete lower the straps if there is something suspicious.
I hope this clears up any confusion.
See you in Battle Creek,
