Schoolboy Duals Team
MUSAW Schoolboy National Duals Teams Selection Process
Michigan will again take two teams to the USAW Schoolboy National Duals. We will have a minimum of one wrestler per weight per team, and a maximum of two wrestlers per weight per team.
Wrestling on a USAW National Duals team is an honor, and offers unparalleled national competition in preparation for future higher level competitions including the renowned Fargo National Championships.
Process for achieving your goal of making the Michigan Schoolboys National Duals Team:
- At a minimum, participate in at least one developmental freestyle tournament, in order to qualify to compete at the MUSAW State Tournament. Recommended, practice hard at any freestyle/greco practice room available, participate in several developmental tournaments in both freestyle and greco, and participate in any developmental camps available.
- Do your best to place as highly as possible at the MUSAW Freestyle and Greco State Tournaments. State Tournament Placement plus expression of desire with the $100 deposit before you leave the State Tournament are the primary determinants of team placement.
- As any top 4 rankings are vacated by lack of availability and/or lack of deposit by the end of the State Tournament, remaining placements will be moved upward and openings will be filled at the coaching staff’s discretion.
- Tip: Regardless of place, fill out the bio sheet information at the State Tournament with a $100 deposit! This shows firm interest. From past experience, many higher place winners are superseded by lower place winners for many reasons. Desire is over half of what it takes to make the team, and 100% of what the coaches desire most from wrestlers. The only way you lose your $100 deposit is if you commit, are chosen, and then you later back out by your choice.
- Mini- camp:
- All team members and prospective team members are required to practice at the June 1 Training Camp. It’s our only chance to organize.
- There will be no mini-camp challenge matches. Team rankings will be determined at the State Tournament. Wrestlers who were not able to compete at the State Tournament are encouraged to come to the mini-camp to seek a spot on the teams at the coach’s discretion. Wildcards are welcome to contact me to check on potential spot openings.
- Team A first teamer, Team A alternate, and Team B Considerations:
- The #1 wrestler will be the A Team first teamer.
- The #2, #3 and #4 wrestlers will either be an A Team Alternate or on the B Team, depending upon team considerations and individual wrestler level.
- Given 20 potential matches per weight class per team, there are advantages and disadvantages with these positions.
If interested, complete the Bio Form and email to Kim Marcicki and Al Freeman ASAP
